Anna Hemmings Speaks to PK Group at their Company Meeting

PK Group, the Richmond-based firm of accountants and financial planners, recently invited Anna Hemmings MBE to their onsite meeting in May 2010. Anna is Britain’s most successful female canoeist and now a respected motivational speaker.

PK Group holds onsite company meetings twice a year. The aim of these meetings is to discuss a range of strategic issues and on this occasion, Anna was brought in to add a fresh perspective on the topic of managing your own destiny and being the very best you can in your chosen career. “The benefits to business of defining goals and applying attributes such as positive attitude, determination, tenacity and courage in order to achieve them are well recognized and the desire for continuous improvement is embedded in PK’s culture” commented CEO Patrick Kennedy.

Anna Hemmings is a two time Olympian and 6 times World Champion. However, in April 2009 after 15 years at the highest level of canoeing, Anna decided to retire from professional sport. Throughout her career, Anna won a staggering 11 World and European Championship medals. However, perhaps her greatest accomplishment was her ability to switch from marathon racing (18miles) to sprint racing (200m and 500m), prompted by a dream to become an Olympian, which was of course realised.
Anna is now a successful motivational speaker. Amongst other things, she inspires with her tale of overcoming adversity: in April 2003, she was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome and told she may never race again. Her attitude meant that she was able to eventually make a full recovery and in 2005 she went on to win 3 consecutive World titles.
